COATICOOK’S MEDICAL CLINIC ENDS PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS WITH DR. STEVEN MONETTE

Coaticook, May 29, 2018 – Dr. Steven Monette has pleaded guilty of sexual misconduct during his disciplinary hearing with the Collège des médecins du Québec. As part of its policy against harassment and discrimination, its code of ethics and its contractual agreements governing its members, the Coaticook Medical Clinic made the decision to immediately terminate its business and professional ties with Dr. Monette permanently.

In the coming weeks, when we will have more information on the findings of the CMQ Discipline Committee, we will contact Dr Monette’s clientele.

The clinic will therefore face in the coming months exceptional circumstances. The professionals who will remain in place will probably not be able to meet all the needs of Dr. Monette’s orphaned patients. However, we will work in collaboration with the concerned organization (CIUSSS of Estrie-CHUS, the DRMG and the MSSS) in order to encourage the recruitment of specialized nurse practitioners and family physicians to limit the inconvenience.

The Coaticook Medical Clinic is the only family medicine clinic in Coaticook’s Local Service Network (RLS). More than 13,500 patients are enrolled and we have adopted the family medicine group (GMF) mode of operation. The territory covered is 1339 km² for the home-based clientele. Some GMF physicians also work in the emergency room or the follow-up of long-term care patients at the MRC-de-Coaticook Hospital Center.
